Attempted the new Borg Cube event for Star Trek Attack Wing tonight. We had 6 people show up, so 5 of us built our 120 point fleets and one controlled the cube, which is not needed by the scenario. It's completely automated, but it made things a lot easier with someone controlling it and rolling dice.

With 5 players, the cube is at full power with 150 hull and 150 shields. It's attacks are determined by

a special deck of cards that give it special abilities each turn. Otherwise it gets to make normal attacks on up to a number of ships equal to the number of players (so up to 5 attacks for this event).

There is also another deck of objective cards that introduce a new challenge to the game each round. If they are successfully completed, the players can use these cards layer on for special effects. If they are failed, there are penalties listed on each card that must be resolved. On top of that, the Cube also repairs each turn equal to the number of players (so up to 5 hull or shields per turn) as well as a bunch of other abilities.

We started of pretty rough, getting a card that limited only ships over 30 points base could attack, which meant that on our first turn, only two of the 16 player ships could even attack the cube. A few back to back bad objectives made things look very bad for us. We did start to make a comeback and really shelled out a lot of damage in the middle of the game.

Tragedy feel when a powerful attack card from the Cube wiped out many of our crew and several captains. The large cluster of mixed matched ships without their captains soon became an issue as a couple objective cards that effected our movement had them colliding with each other.

We finally had about taken down the shields when we realized that none of us were in position to take out the sphere that would launch. If the sphere managed to leave the table, we would all lose, so we had to stop out attack and attempt to regroup for that battle. Another couple back to back bad events caused us to call it as the player fleets few weaker and weaker.

Several ships getting taken out on a single turn was the nail in the coffin and we wrapped up knowing that their was little left we could do. We did manage to get the Cube down to 9 shields and 130ish hull left at the end. Lots of potential damage left on the field, but little chance of completing the scenario. It was a really fun game though and I look forward to attempting it again.
