Got to play the old Star Trek CCG last night (1st edition, because 2nd edition is garbage) in a sealed event. Brought back a lot of memories. The game started way back in 1995 and sort of died off in popularity, but one of the local venue employees loves it and is trying to get it to make a comeback so there are more people to play against.

I managed the luck of the draw and pulled my all time favorite ship in all of Star Trek, but sadly ended up with 2 alternate reality crewmen sort of being able to even use it :-( Kind of a downer to be in possession of the most powerful ship at the table for the event and have to bench it for the entire thing because I didn't have any crew for it.

The game played out much as I remembered. A few things have changed over the years, and we used a few house rules to speed up the terribly long setup period for the game. It was fun, but I'm not sure if he created any new fans out of the group who played.

The game had a lot of potential, but really over complicated things in order to make it very thematic. It success well at what it aimed for and is likely the most thematic star trek game out there, but at the same time a few things just feel poorly implemented and tacked on just for the sake of having them.

I will play it again, but I don't see myself investing a lot into the game. It might be a fun occasional diversion, but because of that I'll be unlikely to ever stand a chance against any actual constructed decks. I did ok and managed to win with my sealed deck though.
